Top 10 ‘American Idol’ Earners of 2008

Pop/Country queen Carrie Underwood has taken the top spot on Forbes “American Idol’s” 2008 top-earners list with a whopping $14 million.

The season four winner earned the most loot thanks to a combination of record sales, extensive touring, and an endorsement deal with Vitamin Water (her and the cast of “Gossip Girl”).

Other “Idol’s” on the list are Ms. Kelly Clarkson, the pop diva herself Jennifer Hudson and a couple of fellas. As for the season two winner, Ruben Studdard, grab the gang and the mystery machine because he is nowhere to be found.

No. 1 Carrie Underwood

$14 million

Forbes released its list of top-earning “American Idol” alums by totaling earnings from album sales, concerts, merchandising and other income sources for the past year. The top dog, one miss Carrie Underwood with $14 million.

No. 2 Jennifer Hudson

$5 million

“Dreamgirls” launched her into the A-list spotlight and her 2008 self-titled album sold more than 750,000 copies.

No. 3 Kelly Clarkson

$4.2 million

You would think with over 10 million albums sold, Miss “Since You’ve Been Gone” would top this list … but these totals are just for this year. Over-all totals for Kelly are way higher, much like her star quality.

No. 4 Jordin Sparks

$3.1 million

With her new single “Battlefield” bound to push this total even further, this season six winner is just starting her rise to the top.She has sold just over a million albums,

No. 5: Kellie Pickler

$2.3 million

What the mess is going on! I remember Kelly as the comic relief, but apparently the country music scene saw her as a star. Kellie has sold 1 million records since the show and endorses “Sexy Hair” products.

No. 6: Clay Aiken

$2.2 million

“Spamalot” gave him another notch on his entertainment industry belt, right behind author by way of penning a New York Times best-selling memoir and over 6 million albums sold

No. 7: Chris Daughtry

$2 million

One of the hardest rocking “Idol’s” to come from the show, Daughtry’s debut album has sold more than 4 million copies. His follow-up LP is slated to hit stores this coming July.

No. 8: David Cook

$2 million

David Cook has sold over a million copies of his debut album, and probably that many shoes with his massive Skechers endorsement.

No. 9: David Archuleta

$1.3 million

The 18 year-old Archuleta has sold 700,000 copies of his self titled freshman CD … even though many of us would pay him a buck to squeeze those munchkin cheeks.

No. 10 Taylor Hicks

$300,000

Even though the sum looks low, Taylor is still raking in the loot on Broadway as Teen Angel in “Grease.” This season five winner is working on another CD, so look for him to bump back up on the list real soon.
