Maybe the kinder, gentler version of the American Idol auditions are appealing to the TV audience. There was some speculation that the show was suffering a drop off when the first night numbers showed their lowest number for their season opener since 2004.
However, the audience came back the second night with an 11.6 rating/29 share that was only down 2% from last season. Possibly because the competition was not as strong Wednesday as it was on Tuesday.
It will be interesting to see how the show holds up as the competition continues. It will depend, in my opinion, how how interesting and compelling the contestants are.
